Mason Jar Brownies & Cream Layered Cakes
Using mason jars makes it easy to keep these desserts on-hand in the freezer. Use mugs if you don’t have mason jars.
Prep time: 20 minutes Cook time: 5 minutes Makes two 8-ounce mason jars
½ cup heavy whipping cream
2 tablespoons powdered sugar
½ teaspoon vanilla extract
¼ cup bittersweet chocolate chips, plus additional to garnish
2 to 3 brownies, crumbled
¼ cup walnuts, roughly chopped, plus additional to garnish
Beat the heavy whipping cream using a hand mixer or stand mixer for 4 to 5 minutes, until soft peaks form. Add the sugar and vanilla and continue beating until medium-stiff peaks form, 2 to 3 minutes. In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the chocolate chips in the microwave in 15-second intervals, stirring in between each interval, until smooth. Place half of the brownie crumbles in the bottom of each 8-ounce mason jar or mug. Top with half of the melted chocolate, nuts, and whipped cream. Repeat a second time, ending with the whipped cream, and top with additional melted chocolate and nuts. Serve immediately or store in the refrigerator or freezer. If storing in the freezer, allow to thaw for 15 to 20 minutes before serving.
Tip: This recipe is a great way to use up leftover brownies. For the best flavor, allow mason jars to sit in the refrigerator for a few hours before serving.
